Newfoundland

With enduring patience and strength, the Newfoundland is a beloved member of the working group of dogs that has rightfully earned its reputation as a trusted “nanny dog”. With origins rooted in the seaport towns of Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada, the Newfoundland was the companion of choice for fishermen thanks to its tremendous strength, calm and loyal disposition, and swimming abilities. Over the years, the Newfie’s gentle and sweet-spirited personality has maintained its popularity as a companion across the world. Among the world’s largest breeds, the Newfoundland has a large, stocky, and muscular build with a thick double coat that comes in black, brown, or black-and-white.

Male Newfoundlands have a withers height between 27”-29” (69-74 cm) and a weight in the range of 130-150 lb (59-68 kg). Female Newfoundlands have a withers height between 25”-27” (64-69 cm) and a weight in the range of 100-120 lb (45.4-54.4 kg).
