Great Pyrenees

A fluffy member of the working group of dog breeds, the Great Pyrenees is a gentle giant bred to guard flocks of sheep as far back as the European Bronze Age. Named for the snowy Pyrenees mountain range that forms the Spanish-French border, this 100 pound canine has a distinctly white, long coat that allows it to thrive in cold climates. With soft, friendly facial features akin to those of a Labrador Retriever or Newfoundland, this kind companion is well suited for families thanks to its innate determination to protect young or injured creatures.

Male Great Pyrenees have a withers height between 27”-32” (69-81 cm) and a weight in the range of 110-120 lb (49.9-54.4 kg). Female Great Pyrenees have a withers height between 25”-29” (64-74 cm) and a weight in the range of 80-90 lb (36.3-40.8 kg). The Great Pyrenees has an overall body length of roughly 40.5”-52.5” (103-133 cm), standing height of 32”-40.5” (81-103 cm), and a typical lifespan of 10-12 years.
