Description
Description

Olga Korbut might have retired early in the gymnastic sport, but the ex-Soviet Union athlete left a legacy by redefining gymnastics, bringing in acrobatics, and changing the perception of the sport to be among the most popular sports in the world. She was nicknamed "Sparrow from Minsk" and won four gold medals and two silver medals. She competed on balance beams, floor exercise, and uneven bars, but was renowned in uneven bars, vault, and balance beam routines. She was awarded the ABC Athlete of the Year title and became the first gymnast to be admitted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame. Besides winning Olympic medals, she has also won a silver medal during the 1973 all-around European Championship and the Russian and World Student Games.
