Description

Dorothy Hamill is an American figure skater and is known for winning the Olympic gold medal in women’s figure skating in 1976. Dorothy Hamill won the Olympics without a triple jump and was the last female skater to do so. After her win she became America’s sweetheart.  She began skating at the age of 8. Dorothy Hamill is credited for developing the camel spin, which is a spin that transitions into a sit spin. This later became known as the “Hamill camel”. Dorothy Hamill retired in 1976. In her retirement she has made various television appearances and is an author.
