Description
Description

The Bowhead whale belongs to a group of baleen whales to the family Balaenidae. Their natural environment is predominantly the Arctic and subarctic waters. The Bowhead whale's name comes from its massive triangular skull besides being the only creature with the largest mouth. The whale can live for over 200 years and spot other characteristics like paired blowholes, longest baleen, thickest blubber than any other creature but lack a dorsal fin. Also, they are slow swimmers, live in solitary or small pods, and prefer to duck or remain submerged. Bowhead whales migrate and have also been found to be highly vocal.

Baleen whales are also called whalebones whales or Mysticeti or toothless whales. They are part of the Cetacea infraorder and possess an extraordinary modification of the mouth (also called baleen) used for filtering food from the water. They are the largest carnivorous marine vertebrates.
