Martin Luther King Jr. was a Christian minister and civil rights activist. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1929, and grew up witnessing the racial inequality present in society. He became a Christian Minister, and then a leader of the civil rights movement. He is known for his advocacy of nonviolent forms of civil disobedience. He helped organize the Selma to Montogomery marches, a series of three protests promoting voting rights for African-Americans. In 1964, Martin Luther King  Jr. won the Nobel Peace Prize for his work. He was assassinated in 1968 by James Earl Ray - there has been much speculation about FBI involvement in his death.

Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1933, she earned a bachelor's degree at Cornell, and trained for her law degree at Harvard and Columbia, where she later graduated (first in her class). Ruth Bader Ginsburg advocated for the advancement of gender equality throughout her career, and won multiple victories in the Supreme Court. She is well liked for her progressive views and for her inexhaustible dissenting opinion. She now has a cult following, and is known affectionately as ‘The Notorious RBG’.

Abraham Lincoln was born in Kentucky in 1809. Largely self-educated, he studied to become a lawyer and then rose through the ranks of local and state politics, becoming President in 1860. He led the Northern States through the American Civil War, a time of moral, political and constitutional criss wherein thousands of people died. The North defeated the South, keeping the Union intact, and instigated the abolishment of slavery. Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth in 1865, a Confederate spy, while attending a play at the Ford’s Theater in Washington D.C.
