Softsquare Dimensions & Drawings

Softsquare is a modern take on the traditional pouf: it is a cube, but its corners are rounded, it has seams, but they’re staggered, it is upholstered in fabric, but it is available in six different colors. Softsquare was designed by Flemming Busk and Stephan Hertzog with the goal of creating simple, yet elegant, functional furniture.

The Softsquare has an overall height of 16.5” (42 cm), width of 18.5” (47 cm), and depth of 18.5” (47 cm).

Poufs are flexible furniture items that are seen primarily as a playful type of cushioned and/or stuffed seating commonly used in living rooms, kids rooms, and schools. Poufs are available in a range of geometric shapes, textures, materials, and levels of rigidity.

Poufs can be stuffed with a large variety of soft filling materials ranging from polystyrene balls to various fibers, flock, plastic bags, old clothing, sheets, wool, cotton, and papers. Seats are typically required to be between 16 to 20 inches (40.6 cm – 50.8 cm) tall and at least 18 inches (45.7 cm) deep. If backs are present on the seats, they typically are at least 14 inches (35.5 cm) high. If the seat has armrests, they should support the arms without raising the shoulders.

Then replace any worn batting and make the new pattern pieces by tracing the original pieces. Attach the new fabric to the chair with a staple gun, then make and attach the welting. Finish off by covering back and underside of the chair.
