Lifting is the act of picking up an object or another person, typically for the purpose of repositioning. One usually lifts using their hands and arms, but depending on the size and weight of the object and it’s starting position, one might also need to engage their legs for further support and to avoid back injury. One may also lift an object to check underneath it if looking for a missing item. Lifting could also refer to the motion of raising one’s head or another part of their body further up, such as lifting one’s hand up to be called on in a classroom.
