Martin Luther King Jr. was a Christian minister and civil rights activist. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1929, and grew up witnessing the racial inequality present in society. He became a Christian Minister, and then a leader of the civil rights movement. He is known for his advocacy of nonviolent forms of civil disobedience. He helped organize the Selma to Montogomery marches, a series of three protests promoting voting rights for African-Americans. In 1964, Martin Luther King  Jr. won the Nobel Peace Prize for his work. He was assassinated in 1968 by James Earl Ray - there has been much speculation about FBI involvement in his death.

John F. Kennedy, often known as JFK, was an American Politician who served as 35th President of the United States of America. He was born in 1917 in Boston, to the prominent Kennedy family. He became involved in politics in 1947, and was sworn in as President in 1961. JFK’s Presidency was known for his involvement in the Cuban Missile Crisis, his Civil Rights Advocacy, and of course, his affair with actress Marilyn Monroe. JFK was married to Jaqueline Bouvier, who became well known in her own right for her elegant style and involvement in the arts. She was with her husband when he was fatally shot in Dallas, Texas, whilst traveling in a Presidential motorcade.

Rosa Parks

Rosa Parks was born in Alabama in 1913. She became involved with the civil rights movement, joining the Montgomery chapter of the NAACP in 1943. In December 1955, she boarded a bus in downtown Montgomery, and refused to give up her seat to a white person onboard. She was arrested. Her actions instigated the Montgomery Bus Boycott, a seminal event in the civil rights movement. This eventually led to a United States Supreme Court decision that declared the Alabama and Montgomery laws that segregated buses were unconstitutional. Rosa Parks remained politically active until her death in 2005.

Clark Gable was a famous Hollywood film actor. He was born in 1901 in Ohio and served in the military during the Second World War.  He was dubbed ‘The King of Hollywood’ due to his appearance in a great number of popular films. One of his most famous roles was as Rhett Butler in Gone With the Wind, a Civil War epic, where he starred opposite Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara. His most famous line has become immortalized in cinematic history. As he leaves Scarlett for the last time, he responds to her pleading, by uttering the words: ‘frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn’.

George Washington was the first President of the United States. He was born and grew up in Virginia. George Washington was born into a land-owning family.
