English Springer Spaniel
Dimensioned drawing of a English Springer Spaniel with sizes compared to a person

The English Springer Spaniel, a close relative to the Welsh Springer Spaniel and English Cocker Spaniel, is a sweet, energetic sporting dog. Historically, the Welsh Springer Spaniel was used to “spring,” where the name springer comes from, birds into the air for sport hunting. As a result of this breeding, the Welsh Springer Spaniel is accustomed to working around and with humans constantly and becomes miserable if left alone for long durations. The Welsh Springer Spaniel is a compact dog with a long, feathering brown coat with white markings or white coat with black, brown, and silver markings.

Cocker Spaniel
Dimensioned drawing of a Cocker Spaniel comparing its size to the size of a person

The Cocker Spaniel, nicknamed the Cocker, is a beloved companion and family breed known for its gentle and happy personality. Originally bred as a sport hunting dog in the United Kingdom, like the Welsh Springer Spaniel, the Cocker Spaniel receives its name from hunting Eurasian woodcock. The Cocker Spaniel is notable for its long, plush ears and flowing coat, which can require ample grooming especially since the ears are prone to infection and disease due to their length. Sensitive and intelligent, the Cocker Spaniel is easily trainable and responds best to positive reinforcement and encouragement.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi
Size comparison drawing of a Pembroke Welsh Corgi compared to an average person

The Pembroke Welsh Corgi, one of two types of Welsh Corgis, is a stout, intelligent, herding dog ranging in color from red, to sable, to fawn, and to black and tan, with or without white markings. Originating from Pembrokeshire, Wales, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi descended from a line of northern spritz-type dogs, but is most famous for being fancied by Queen Elizabeth II, who had over 30 Pembroke Welsh Corgis during her reign. Despite their short legs, Pembroke Welsh Corgis are surprisingly lithe and agile due to their history of herding cattle. Pembroke Welsh Corgis make great pets and big cities, such as Los Angeles and San Francisco, have yearly meetups for Corgi owners and their lovable companions.
